Lesson Two Overview:
Standard Work is powerful at all levels of an organization. Our customers need depends on everyone following Standard Work to provide them with the products and services they expect, and pay for. If the workforce is expected to follow Standard Work shouldn’t the leaders be expected to follow a Standard as well? Without Leader Standard Work we could give the impression that Standards are not important, or worse yet, that we are somehow above the need to follow the Standard. Leaders that use Leader Standard Work create a culture that promotes Lean thinking, and helps to sustains improvements.
Suggested Activities and Homework:
Meet with your coach and head to the Gemba. Take a Gemba walk and ask the associates what information is lacking for them to make everyday decisions, or do their tasks and job functions effectively. Ask about the process they are following. Is it appropriately designed? Is there a better way to perform their tasks? Share the Plan, Do, Check, Act, Diagram. Explain how using the PDCA Diagram can be used to successfully change the current standard.

- During your Gemba Walk ask employees what information they would like to see on a daily basis? What kind of problem is this lack of information creating?
- What Standard Work are the employees following to complete their tasks?
- How can we use the PDCA method when creating Leader Standard Work? Hint; Modify and Adjust!
